Another BAT TR4A, sold yesterday, broke the $50K barrier. A lovely car, for sure, but not better than many here. Prices are going up; if you want one of these, now's the time to get it.

I remember when TR4s seemed to sort of be the unwanted, ugly stepchild of the TR family. Good to see them getting some love, but BaT prices are crazy.

Agree, it's the black.

This is kinda cool. This car is CTC62153-L built on Nov 4, 1965. I am CTC62210-LO built on...Nov 4, 1965! I also have the same vanity license plate "66TR4A" - different state however.

Crazy money for this car. Mine had a frame off in 2000 and I'll admit the under carriage of this car is a bit nicer than mine. Otherwise, the single owner with full documentation probably pulled a nice premium.

Wow

It is good to see the Tr's fetching something near the cost to do a restoration. Face it ,we all grew up
with "real dollars"that had much greater buying power than a buck has today. I bought gas one night
in 68 for 19.9 cents/gallon. Filled up the Cushman for 50 cents.Minimum wage was 90 cents then.
Collision repairs were 8$ with 4$ added for paint/hour. Days long gone.
I think the price paid was about right all things considered. There was one at BJ in Kissimmee some years back
it fetched 90K. Housing bubble days.....

Prices are rising for sure, a fellow panther owner messaged me on FB messenger saying his father had gifted him his old panther lima,
telling me he opened the door and now cant shut it as the aperture is now narrower than the door,
As he has never welded or fabricated before he has had a quote of ÂŁ50 an hour for as long as it takes to rebuild the chassis,
and i think that is cheep as most body shops here are not interested in doing this kind of work, need to find old school type
fabricators to do the work, and they are now getting old, old school,
I am not interested anymore doing stuff for other people, i have done that all my life, now its my time to play

Black IS the most beautiful AND terrible color. The fussing and polishing alone is more than enough
to drive you to drink........
My wife's car is black and she complains about having to wash it/wax it. I just remind her it's paid for.
then do it myself....

My curent TR4A brings back memories of my first all-black car, a 1973 Oldsmobile (455, 4-sp, etc.). If not tinkering under the hood, a typical weekend had me washing, waxing, and otherwise slaving over it to bring out the shine. When done, a lawn chair and a beer allowed me to sit and admire it. I'd sometimes road test the job and get compliments while refueling (which was frequent in that car), making it all worthwhile. The Triumph takes it's place, other than the waxing, as I'm now too old (or lazy) for that, so had it ceramic coated. But my adoration and the occasional compliments at the stop signs and gas pumps are the same. Black is back, and I love it.

I have personally painted TOO MANY black cars, to not look at them and feel sorry for the PDB
that had to buff it out and then polish out the swirls. At my shop , black was 20% extra and we still
lost money.....

I've got a '66 Black TR4A, so perfect I can barely stand myself. I wouldn't sell it for anything. At least not now. But I must say, perfect or not, these cars will lose value as we "diehards" get older. Remembering the cool cars of the '60s is something our age group does quite well, while younger folks seem not to care so much. Though I do find it amazing to see so many TR4s showcased in recent advertisements and movies. I'm sure many of you know that the TR4 has been the front shot and promotional homepage image for recent Wells Fargo and AAA websites.

I had a black 1972 mk1 capri 1600 GT XLR limited edition, with a red interior, wish i still had it, but spent more time keeping it clean than driving it,
every time it rained ended up with little round circles where the drops of rain were.

Black is one of the hardest colours to get perfect, it will show every ripple in a panel, silver is one of the hardest to prep for, it will show every minute scratch in the primer, its all about the prep, red and white are two of the hardest colours to match, But by far the worst colour out there, is on this nissan figaro.

none of the paint swatches were close enough a match, guy wanted the arches blown in, been done twice before and the clour was a mile off,
I spent half a day tinting the closest match we had to get it right,
