This picture does not begin to do justice to the quality of work these folks do. About 350 bucks and three weeks. There is not a blimish front or back or end. They are without dought perfect.
See the real thing at the Lake of the Ozarks next summer.
Looks great. I'm thinking about an alternative route. The guys in Knoxville that did our chrome work also do some nifty aluminium polishing. I may give them a try.
I've done a little hobby anodizing, mostly for bicycle parts (https://www.nonlintec.com/anodizing/) and, believe me, it's not easy to get a good finish. My biggest problem is that if you anodize too long, you lose the shiny finish, but too short, and it won't take the dye. Temperature matters, too; the anodizing can heat the part, then it won't take the dye. You have to keep everything close to room temperature. It's really tricky, and then you're dealing with some pretty hairy chemicals--lye and sulfuric acid. It's not too bad for small pieces, but if I had to do large ones, I wouldn't even think about trying to do it myself.
