Why would it be illegal to eat in a subway station? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hmmmmm, didn't you guys once have a revolution because of opression and heavy-handed government? That is more than a little over-the-top. Speaking as an ex-officer, I am horrified at this. Some cop was having a bad day and then, having taken it too far, couldn't back down without losing face. Bring in the Bobbies, the world would be a nicer place!

Why would it be illegal to eat in a subway station? Probably to minimize litter, reduce cleanup costs and avoid attracting rats, ants and roaches, not to mention avoiding chewing gum sticking to everything (just a guess on my part).

As the heavy handedness of the situation I don't know about this one in particular but in many cases "you had to be there". Despite the title of the article the report says that she was really arrested for failure to stop and provide identification when requested by the officer (not surprising in a heightened security environment), not just for eating the candy bar.

So was the cop just being a jerk or was she being an idiot for deliberately ignoring him? You had to be there.

Exactly!! The media has a great way of telling one side - whichever sells the best. Been involved in a few news reports and TV documentaries. Believe me - don't believe a lot of them.

In a similar vein the the courts in the UK have just upheld the governments side over a compensation case for a man who was falsely imprisoned for nearly 20 years for a murder he didn't commit. When released he obtained nearly 1 million GBP compensation . The government has won the right to retain 25% of that to cover the costs of his 'board and lodging' in jail on the grounds that he did not have to pay for his own food and rent over that period!!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
