I could not make this up... it's in our local paper today.

"A man dressed as a tree was arrested Monday afternoon in downtown Portland on a charge of obstructing a public way.

[The] Assistant Police said [the man], 30, of Portland, who was standing at High and Congress streets, was arrested after refusing orders to leave the busy intersection.

[He] was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, charged with the misdemeanor of obstructing a public way. His bail was set at $60 cash, according to a jail intake worker. He had not made bail as of early Monday evening.

[He] declined to be interviewed after being asked by the intake worker if he was interested in talking to the media.

Jail workers said the tree had to be removed from [him] so that a booking photo that clearly shows his face could be taken. The tree was being held at the jail."

(I removed the names).

Ah, Maine....

Whose diabolical idea was it to have High and Congress intersect?

clearly he was pining for something

Supposedly a bit of "performance art". There's a sizable art college on that block.

certainly could be the root of the incident

Well, sometimes when you go out on a limb....

A little over a year ago, I snapped this photo of a guy walking down the street in Santa Monica. Kind of matches the description.

Is pot legal in Maine? I've seen the look on his face before.....

"He had not made bail as of early Monday evening".
Doesn't he know that money grows on trees?

Hey, good things come in trees.

and, given that he doesn't seem dangerous, his bark is worse than his bite
