I am genuinely bummed over the loss of Tom Lehrer. He's been a presence in my life since I was a teen, I loved getting to introduce my kids to him and slightly warp their senses of humor. The world is just a little less joyful without Tom in it.

I still have 2 of his LPs (from the early days)... even a book of his sheet music. Clever fellow that made it to the ripe old age of 97.

... said, jokingly, of his musical career: "If, after hearing my songs, just one human being is inspired to say something nasty to a friend, or perhaps to strike a loved one, it will all have been worth the while."

When I was a teen, used to have a Sunday evening radio show I listened to called "Dr Demento" that played a lot of his stuff. Sorry to know he's gone but pushing 100 is a good long life.
I also listened to Dr. Demento when I was a teen.
He had a large influence on my tastes in music and radio in general.
Just learned here of his passing.

Tom Lerher was entertainment in our house as I grew up, along with the likes of Kermit Schafer and Vaughn Meader.

One of dad's pal's, big Lerher fan, soon-to-be physics PhD and a mentor to me, introduced me to 'Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention'. He was thinking about writing his Doctoral thesis, basing it on that album. Decided instead to write it on utilizing ultrasonics as a means of non-destruttive testing of materials... likely a better topic, considering.:cool:

Vaughn Meader and his JFK skit are still in my memory bank.... funny schtick

Oh, yes, forgotten that. The JFK album was/is a classic (right up to his death). "The rubber swan is mine."
