A much nicer April 3rd for us!

Bet that woke you up. How long did it take to get the damage fixed? I ask because a neighbor had a similar tree accident 2 weeks ago & the only "repair" has been a tarp over the damage.

Since it was a tornado that dropped the tree on us, we were declared a disaster area and things actually moved pretty quickly.
By the end of June or early July we had a new roof, new kitchen ceiling, two new bathrooms and a definite new view in our backyard.
It was a hassle I never want to experience again!! But in the end, we were all safe and OK and it turns out damage can be fixed!
I still miss my tree though.

I always fear losing mature trees from our yard. We have two mature black walnut trees outside our master bedroom, but last fall we had to bring down a large spruce tree on the front corner of the lot due to a "spruce gall" problem in the area. But we designed our landscaping around the walnuts, so I hope they last forever.

Got plenty of big trees in my yard: a 60 ft. elm, pointed at the house; a big magnolia. Next door, probably a 80 ft. poplar that would literally flatten us if it fell, and others.

Price of living in an old neighborhood. Keeps ya on yur toes in a windstorm . . . :blush:

Wasn't watching those guys work to bring those trees down amazing?
One of the funniest memories of that whole event was sitting on the back patio, drinking a beer and watching those guys in the tops of the trees!
(note they aren't even wearing safety harnesses!)

Must not be professionals if no harnesses are used. Sounds like something I would have done in my earlier years.

My neighbor is an ex tree man of 20 years. When i moved in he offered to take down some of the poplar in my back yard- fairly close to the house. He dropped 5 trees so fast i could not keep up dragging the brush. So serious artistry in the work. not even a twig hit the house. He did use a safety tho.

Neighbor across the street had an OLD oak taken down last week, and they used one of those cranes that extend for a hundred feet or so. Put the "cutter" in a sling to get up in the tree; then he wrapped a section & cut it, crane lowered it, and after about 8 hours of hard work by the 5 person crew the tree was history. VERY impressive.
