GT6 ...and a basketweave seat cover question

The upholsterer for my seat covers installation pointed out to me a small triangular flap on the outboard side of both seat bottoms at the back. What are those for? He said the original seats had them, too.

Can you show a pic. Most flaps on car seats are to hold covers in place from sliding in and out. The TR 6 seats have slots cut into foam to glue and hold cover.
 
OK, here's a photo I had to resize 'cause the server wouldn't take it yesterday. You can see the little triangular flap on the outboard sides of both seats. It's more obvious on the left seat as you're looking at the photo.
