AN5 8145 Pictures

I had a call on the west side of the valley today, so I gave the owner a call and got some pictures. Butch knows this car from seeing it race in 1959 through today and has restored it to its original condition. It needed a restoration as the original paint was mostly gone after racing here in Ca.
I heard the car run, and (unfortunately my video did not work) the car is not a typical 948

I'll post some pictures not seen on the ebay listing, so you can see more of the differences b/t it and a stock B/E. Spent sometime talking to him about the car, but had to leave early as I had another call. I'm sure I will not get that close to another "Works" car again.

wow - what a cool experience - thanks for sharing

Re: AN5L 8145 Pictures

Wow...very,very cool!
I wonder who makes that tachometer.
Is it a Smith's? I can't tell from the pics.

Tom
I actually was paid to drive most of the way as I had a call in the area (nice perk).

David
I can not really say who made the tach, I'll have to ask Butch. I hope to get over to his place again as he has a large collection of cars. He is currently working on an Elva.

Re: AN5L 8145 Pictures

Here is a question the owner does not have an answer for. In the 5th picture you can see the top of a U bolt, just behind the middle of the seat. What waa it used for? It was found on the other Sebring Sprite down in So Cal., so it assumed to be original.

Re: AN5L 8145 Pictures

I have no idea about the u bolt other than maybe shoulder belts. Just had to guess.

Re: AN5L 8145 Pictures

Thanks for the pictures. Wish I had the sort of finances necessary to bring that car home. Too cool.

Re: AN5L 8145 Pictures

Lovely photos. Thanks.

Re: AN5L 8145 Pictures

That is indeed a Smiths tach, they also had a version that went to 9K and with the numbers traveling the whole diameter.

Those carbs look exactly like the H4's that I had installed on my Mk2 at Donald Healey's dealership just before I shipped my Sprite to the States. They, along with the "high efficiency" exhaust system they installed, made a huge difference in performance.

SWEET! I'd sure like to get my hands on one of those. Source?

I have to admit that this is a guess, but from the look of it, I'd say that was a stop to prevent the seat from sliding back any further.
