Just curious, was that TR8 or TR6? The lineup seems to be of the older models, rather than the later versions.
 
TR8! Yeah, that surprised me, too....
 
You have to take these things with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong, TR8's are wonderful. But I don't think they've yet achieved the nostalgic aspect of the earlier cars. The Hemmings article might have been written by a younger person.

Case in point. I took my TR6 for its NJ required inspection (classic car status) and the friendly young guy doing the work said to me, "so is the engine in the rear of this car?"
 
I started buying Hemmings Sports & Exotic when they first came out a number of months back and read them with great interest. At first I was impressed. Of course articles such as the one you point out are subjective, which is all good. But the longer I read the mag the more I find it fraught with errors and silly mistakes, even by some of the editors. I kinda feel the mag is a pieced together bit of afterthought, struggling to find new subjects about which to write each month. I realize that tech sections like Fix it Again, Tony are written with tongue in cheek but some of his advice is with foot in mouth.
Whatever. Their section labeled Auction Profile is humorous and intended as such, but when they list a 74 TR6 resto-mod in #2+ condition that sold for $18K+ as "In all, a good buy for a compact cruiser", I question their credentials. I would call that a good sell. Compact cruiser, yet?

Whatever. Too much coffee this morning.

Last November I was bringing my TR2 home and, while at an Indiana gas stop, two young fellas asked if my car was a Studebaker!
