American Racing Libre Wheels

I am currently trying to close a deal on a junker B GT, this thing is so rusty you could almost get tetanus from looking at it. However the car is equipped with a decent looking set of American Racing Libre Wheels. The wheels are very dirty and are missing their center caps but other wise are undamaged. Anyone have any idea what thes might be worth? I plan on either selling or trading them.

Regards John

I'll trade you 4 rusty rostyles

I don't know about B wheels, but I have seen the American Racing Libre wheels in what sounds like similar condition to what you describe go for several hundref on E-bay, they are a pretty popular item as a period mod I think. A nice alternative to Panasports or Panasport style

Yes it would be nice to have pictures, but I googled "American Racing Libre Wheels" and there are lots of pictures on some of the Datsun sites near the top of the list.
They might be nice looking on a GT, but to put them on a roadster would not look right at all. My guess is they would be worth 200-300 depending on condition. That style could have a lot of rash on them with age.

also in the early 70s when these were popular no one lowered their cars ,
so these were often an inch wider than stock and really filled up the wheelwell,

so check the offset and width before buying them ,
if you car is lowered any you might run into problems....

California price, the used wheels seem to be running from $ 30.00 to $ 75.00 each, depending on condition. That's the original wheel, not a clone! Your price estimate I think would be as new still in the box, if they could still be found.

Also, since the wheel was not a factory option and they were copied by other companies, I think it would be a personal thing about having the originals with the name stamped on them. They all look alike, clones and originals. I certainly wouldn't go around checking out the wheels on peoples cars with a magnifying glass to see if their stamped ALR original wheels. So who's to know? Just you.

The wheels are sort of on the rare side and were pretty popular in their day. I have some 13"X7" on my Midget and have seen them on a B roadster as well. I think they look ok, but that's up to the tastes of the owner. The center caps from a mid to late 80s GM small car with the styled steel wheels can be adapted to fit as replacment caps for the originals are pretty much unobtainable now. If you find someone who want's them they should bring up to around $400 for the set I'd think.
