American Hero Darrell "Shifty" Powers passed away.

With very little acknowledgment of his passed record, Mr. Powers passed away at the age of 86 June, 17, 2009. He was a hero not only in our eyes, but to his children and to his war buddies as well. Quite a guy who lived a humble life.
Rest in peace Shifty, we thank you for your unselfish deeds in helping to preserve our freedom. You will be dearly be missed.

A Salute to Darrell "Shifty" Powers - from "Band of Brothers" | Facebook

And to think Jackson gets weeks of news media portraying him as an American idol? Something wrong with this picture.

Sad to see him go, but he led a full and active life. Not to mention that he was a hero in the truest sense of the word.

If you get a chance, go to your local USVA Hospital and volunteer a few hours of your time. Do it for them, the WWII vets.

My Dad, a combat-wounded and disabled WWII vet, recently entered a USVA Hospital where he will live out the rest of his days. And every time I go to visit him there I am emphatically reminded of the tremendous sacrifices that were made by some WWII vets. A visit to the USVA hospital will do that to you, or at least it does to me.

Strange, how we sometimes need to be reminded of this fact and that many don't seem to acknowlege it.

Thank you very much, Mr. Powers, for your service. RIP.

Your right Tony, they are amazing guys! But, so many never get the credit that they truly deserve. Their ALL hero's in my book.

Re: American Hero Darrell "Shifty" Powers passed a

You're right most didn't get the credit they deserved, but they got what they expected. We forget in today's media and celebrity obsessed society that they went to do a necessary job and didn't expect much more than a hug from family, a handshake from friends and the chance to resume their lives, when they returned. I'm all for giving these the attention they need and the chance to preserve their stories for future generations, as late as it may be in coming.
