I just spent a couple of hours cleaning tar out of the engine bay. This is the tar/sealer they put on at the factory. I then moved to the cockpit. I used the heat gun to get rid of some of the worst before going at it with the solvent. I'm trying to get the car ready to take to the body shop. My body guy said that all I should do is paint the floor with anti rust paint and leave it at that. Bear in mind that I don't care about concours but I want it nice too. Anyway, as I took off the tar, I realized it is all on joints. So, here is my question. Am I just making problems? Should I just paint over it and be done since no one will see it anyway? Or, should I strip out the tar? And, if I do strip the tar, do I reseal the joints? Help! On the plus side, I went to the British Car show in Winter Park FL today (Orlando) It was wonderful, I was inspired, no spridgets though.

The tar is actually seam sealer...taking it out allows places for moisture to collect & cause rust...I'd do like the factory - leave it & paint over.

Ditto. Provided you have good, solid metal beneath. I'd leave it alone, and repaint.
But, if you have to remove it, dry ice and a rubber mallet work well.

You mean we get to play with dry ice?!?! WOOHOOO!!!

...I've got a B flywheel around here somewhere wot needs a new ring gear too... wonder if mum would freak if I toss a ring gear inna oven, as I "chill" the big disk in tub of CO2?
