i know you can get an aluminum head for a healey, but has anybody ever made a lighter block instead of the cast iron boat anchor 3.0 ???

BMC made one and installed it in the last Works Rally car which was due to compete in the 1967 RAC Rally. The car was also the only works car to run with minilite wheels and an exhaust in the door. It didn't actually get to run however as the rally was cancelled due to an outbreak of foot and mouth desease.

The car still exists and is maintained by Paul Woolmer in England, who also looks after OON 440. The aluminium engine isn't currently in the car at present.

Actually.....the BMC Works Department made 3 all alloy competition engines, one was installed in the '67 RAC Rally car, one ended-up with John Chatham and one is unaccounted for. I don't believe John still has the one he sourced. If it was for sale, I think it would be much more then DMD's new version.

Dougie,

I think I'll start searching for that third engine!!!

I agree, it'd be quite a find.

I believe that John Chatham is working on producing new alloy blocks, he had one of the original Competitions Dept. blocks.

that is one expensive block $ 16,500 wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww plus the head also at $ 5,000 . would have around $ 23,000 in one engine lol, crazy.
