Aluminum Flywheel?

I figure while the motor and trans are out of the car I would do some other stuff to the car. The flywheel ring gear is pretty chewed up, so I was thinking upgrading to an aluminum flywheel. Sometimes these can have downsides, but I was thinking with how little power these 1275 motors have, it could only help. Any thoughts on that?
 
Put a new ring gear on and balance it.

Some people love them, but most often they're not for street use. Racers like 'em because they spin up faster, but it's harder to get your car off the line because of the lack of mass at the clutch. If you live in town or do urban driving that's the down side.

I have one and have had it for 6 or 7 years now and I love it.
Best bang for the buck I ever spent.
I have no problem driving the car on the street or in town or traffic.
It spins up nice and fast and when your engine revs up faster, your wheels are turning faster.
Maybe some people need to learn how to work a clutch :wink:
 
maybe we don't like to burn up are clutch and spend are time driving not taking out the motor
 
So where can I find a new ring gear? I've never seen them seperate
 
7 years, same clutch and I do NOT baby the car.
Matter of fact, I rebuilt engine but used the original original clutch because it looked like new.
Hey it works for me and I absolutely love it, I'll never go back to a heavy steel flywheel again.
If you are burning up clutches with an aluminum flywheel, you need to learn how to drive a stick.

BTW, ring gears are on Ebay from Scarborough Fair for under $20 buy it now.
