Aluminium Bonnet and Boot Lid

Guys, I am hoping to get a little advice. I am in the process of restoring my 3000. Both my bonnet and boot lid are steel and need restoration (dents and some rust). They are the origins and are repairable.

I am considering buying replacement Aluminum components (bonnet and boot lid only, not the doors), and using them instead.

has anyone had any good or bad experiences with this.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you,

Bill

I replaced the bonnet and boot lid with aluminum parts a fews years back. This was primarily for weight savings on my '57 100-6 MM vintage racer.
They were sourced through https://www.ahead4healeys.co.uk/OUTER-BODY-PANELS--OP--ct184.aspx and fit well with very little adjustments. This supplier was very accommodating with my request for special details and additional lightening eliminates. In short, my parts were made to order and I was very pleased with the results.

Looks like my Biplane air racer, Dougie. Carbon fibre prop and spinner and instrument panel, fiberglass cowling, reduced componentry, gell cell wheelchair battery and holes drilled in many non structural steel parts. Lots of hard work to drop such a small percentage of weight. I doubled the weight savings by dieting and losing 20 lbs!

Doug,
How was shipping costs and packaging? I've gotten mixed results from having things shipped from UK.

I've ordered multiple parts from them, they've all arrived in good condition. Freight charges weren't too bad, its been a few years. Don't expect any replacement parts to be a direct fit. There's always adjustments that must be made however.
