Alternator went bad! Bummer.

Such a beautiful day so we decided to uncover the "B" and take it out for a spin. Well, it never happened. I think a diode went bad in the alternator as there was a static discharge in the system, thus draining the battery. The alt. wouldn't charge unless I excited it by unplugging it and replugging it in while the engine was running. I'm not fooling with it as I emailed Tony about a new or rebuilt replacement. Such is life! When we uncovered it, it looked like it was pleading with us to take it for a drive. It was all shiny and we even had the top down. Bummer!

I'll wait for your email Tony. What ever is the best/fastest way to get one. Does the later models have the same plug on the back as the earlier models. What's the difference, if any?

Plugs & in my email I weas gonna ask you which plug you have...were it me, I'd pull it today, drop it off at a place that rebuilds them Monday & install it Wednesday....I'll have to get one rebuilt...or, if yours repairs easily, I can send you a good, used one that you can have as a spare on the shelf.

Tony, there's a place in Myrtle Beach that advertises they rebuild ALL makes. I'll check them out tomorrow. If they don't have the parts to rebuild this Lucas, I'll get a rebuilt one or new one from you. The rectangular hole in the back of the unit has three spade lugs, two large and one smaller. The plug on the wires is rectangular in shape with matching female receptors. I can't find any numbers on the case to match it with another unit. If it comes to that, I'll send a photo of the back cover. PJ

They'll be able to fix it if its just normal stuff....if not, I've got lots of them.

Thanks Tony, I'll be in touch. PJ

Got my alternator back. Looks and works like new! 60 bucks, half the price of a rebuild from Moss. Thanks Tony for the advise. You saved me money.
