just got the car. 73 spit mk IV with a 76 miget 1492cc engine. It does not charge so want to swap alternator for gm delco. I would like to use single wire. What would be involved in doing this outside of mounting issues? Any help would be appreiated. Thanks
Al

Al,

Do you really want a one-wire? You pay more for it, it doesn't work as well, and you still have to deal with the leftover wires in your harness. I'd recommend sticking with the Delco #7127 three-wire as described on the website referenced above.

The only thing I'd add to Teglerizer's site would be a note about the brown/yellow wire. In your harness, you'll have what appears to be three brown/yellow wires, but it is actually only two. One of the wires goes up into the harness a few inches and then comes right back out again. Just remove this short piece of wire and treat the remaining brown/yellow wire as described by Teglerizer.

If you're a VTR member, you can get more details on the TR web site.

thanks you guys are great. I will stick with 7127 three wire. I just thought the 1 wire would be less trouble.

Al,

The one-wire would be less trouble if you were wiring from scratch, but since you already have the extra wires to deal with, it's just as much trouble to eliminate them (if not more) than it is to go ahead and use them.
