MGB Alternator Problem 77 MGB

The alternator on my 77 is having a bit of a problem. When the car is idling the alternator is not working. When you start down the driveway in the morning with the lights on they are dim until the RPM's hit about 2500 then, suddenly the lights brighten up. I'm thinking alternator rebuild time or am I over looking something?

Regards John
