Alternator Conversion

My old 44 amp Lucas alternator is just not efficiently supplying my electrical needs. What 100 amp conversion kits are available? Which of the kits are the simplest to install.
 
The Bosche alernator from a Ford Fiesta (or was it Festiva? hmmm) bolts right up, and is more than adequate at supplying the electrical juice you'll need for a B... :smile:

Once you install one of these the power output from the alt will be more than sufficient. If you're still getting signs of low power from various electrical devices, you'll need to start tracing your wires...

78 to 80 for fiesta with the volage regulator is the one you would want and it's a drop in no mod replacement for the lucas.

Don't know how much modification of bracketry might be necessary for a delco-style, but you can score a One-wire, GM-style (delco housing)replacement from JC Whitney 60 amp less than $100, 100 amp, less than $150. Solves any possible issues with any external regulator, and hence would also make a good choice for a generator conversion.

Oh, hey, just looked up specifically 79 Fiesta and it calls for exact same item. (from Whitney) Go with at least a rebuilt, rather than salvage, IMO. BTW from one quick search the Bosch is only 55 amp, requires a core charge and without can run around $120. Autozone also says a separate regulator required.

Again, simplify, go with a one-wire. Yes I know most GM-style alts have a built-in regulator but usually still have two extra leads - these one-wire alts are truly one wire - simply 10gage or heavier battery wire and that is it.
