Alternator conversion question

I can't offer any help with your car model or the vendor, but hang in there. Someone here must know something about the kit.

That's very similar to the setup I installed on my TR4, except that I put the pieces together myself, fabricated some parts and did a thin belt conversion at the same time. Looks like the standard Delco 60 amp 7127-3 alternator is used in the kit. The harder thing to find is the pulley to fit the wide original belt, and making up a spacer for the bottom mount. So, a kit like that could make the whole installation a lot easier and faster.

Seems reasonably priced, too, all things considered. I made the conversion for a lot less, but would have to factor in time and materials for parts I fabricated, as well.

I already have thin belts on my TR3. What do you need to do to the alternator to make it fit the bracket?

Bill,
The Delco alternator mounts on the front of the generator bracket that's mounted to the block. You need a long bolt to span the old bracket holes (for strength) or use two shorter bolts with a coupler to make up the span (this is how I did it.) The adjusting bracket (top) mounts in the stock location and you must insure that the belt, once installed, is in-line with the fan and water pump pulleys. Some say to hack 1/2" off the bottom mount of the alternator but this was not needed on my 3A. Once you get it hanging on the old generator bracket, do some shimming to get the belt in alignment. Pretty easy really. Wiring is cake also and it is a good change to go from 22amp generator to 63+amp alternator.

And if your car is still positive ground, need to change a couple of wires for negative ground. Again, this is minor.
