Alternative Seats

My seats are in pretty bad shape. I was going to have them redone locally until I realized that mine are not as original as I thought. My seats have a plywood bottom. I'm pretty sure the seat backs are original.

Before I spend the money to have these redone and find real bottoms for them, I want to see what the alternatives are. I've read that Miata seats are a good fit, but it seems that everyone knows that. They seem to be rare and expensive.

What other seats are known to be a good fit, and reasonably available?

Thanks,

David

Miata seats are easy. Open phone book, call local recycling yard, "Got any seats out of a Miata." Y/N? Try several and you will find more than one sewt in town. Place I bought mine had them out of the car and inside where it was dry and clean. Dickered with them for $125 and took them home.

Our Sprite has miata seats in it. Look great, fit great! I'm 6' 200# and fit in the car comfortably.

Was able to get cloth for $125. Theyu breathe in the summer. Sure leather would be nice but the top goes down and I don't need to worry about it. You will need to do some minor modifications to seats i.e. cut off front mounting pegs and either drill new holes( 1 of the 4 would line up) or fab some adapter plates if you don't want to drill new nounting holes. An intewresting project and the speakers in the headrest are fabulous at speed. Do they look period correct, no. Are they comfy and supportive, YES. Far more so than sitting on the overstuffed cushions that came in my '68 and far less to go with these seats than an upholstery kit.

And you can get nice upholstery kits on Ebay...
Just do what I didn't and know the year car they come out of - different years take different upholstery kits.
