Alternate Alternator?

Is there a domestic, I know nothing is domestic anymore, alternator that I can use to replace the Lucas alternator on my 74 1275? Something I can pick up at a local parts chain? Thanks

Bosch 13107 should be pretty close. This is a 55 amp unit used on a 78-80 Ford Fiesta. I used it for the alternator conversion on my bugeye.

Also, look for a listing for a 74 MG Midget on the Autozone site or someplace similar. You can get an alternator that is almost identical to the old Lucas ones. It's still only 35 amps though.

I put a Delco single-wire (off a late 70's camaro) on my 1275. Took a small (and, seriously, I mean small) amount of grinding on the alternator mounting flange and a $10 or $15 Mr. Gasket bracket.

I used the delco - love it! and with the 1500 there were no modifications other than the electrical plug - I even used the original brackets

You can make about any of the late model alternators work. Most are internally regulated now and so mounting them is the bigger issue than wiring.

should have an internal regulator. I don't use that box on the firewall anymore with the Delco unit.

You won't need the regulator and the wiring will handle it easy. The only wire taking the extra current is the one from the alternator to the battery, its the thick brown one.

With the 1275 the Bosch unit is a bolt-on except the connecter. The Delco requires making a mounting bracket because of the single pivot flange.
