I'm in Eureka,& have a buyer in LA (Upland,CA).
We don't know each other but want to complete the
transaction.
Our local credit union,which I deal with,wouldn't
get involved.What's a safe way of making a transaction?

Other guy's bank is in Nigeria. :friendly_wink:
 
I've bought a few cars long-distance, and always had good luck with doing a wire transfer (bank-to-bank). You give the buyer your account/routing info and the money shows up directly. There is a small fee usually, and it's quite safe. The buyer can only put money into your account, can't pull it out. It's a common method for transferring larger amounts of money.

This is the same info that's on the bottom of any check you give out.

I did use PayPal once (to buy a car from Canada) and it worked fine but the fees were not cheap -- I was going across country borders so I had fewer options.
 
I wouldn't use PP, fees and they hold your money for 30 days AND the buyer can do a reversal and you're screwed.
 
Wiring is relatively cheap (maybe $35). Is the buyer not confident in your receiving money first? The only way around that sort of difficulty is some sort of escrow service, but you don't want to pay for all that (because they'd have to receive the car!).
 
I think if Doug's credit union doesn't want to get involved, then wiring the funds to his credit union will be difficult.
 
I would consider opening a new account with very little money in it....then have the new TR6 money sent to that account. After funds have cleared, transfer those monies into your regular account and close the new account.
