Almost my first since 16

Yesterday I almost received my first "speeding ticket" since I was 16 years old! I was leaving the local Air Force base in the Santa Fe and was doing the posted speed limit of 30 MPH. As I approached the gate, there is a sign that drops the limit to 15MPH about 300 ft from the gate. Now I know that the speed limit through the gate is 15 and was in the process of slowing down, but apparently was till screaming along at a neck-braking 24MPH as I passed the sign 300 ft from the gate. That's when I saw the Base cop standing at the gate with the radar gun pointed directly at me! "Oh heck! I was sure I was going to get a ticket! But alas, I only got a warning and was allowed to go on my merry way with only a stern warning to watch my speed approaching the gate! Whew! My wife would not have let me live it down!

basil, changed his mind when ya told em you had authority to call in a-10's ?...

Yeah, I've been on Dix/Lakehurst/McGuire as well as Picatinny lots of times. Speed limits on bases are strictly enforced.....I'm always careful.

But on local roads here in NJ, going 9 mph over would barely yield a yawn by police.
I'm on the NJ Turnpike weekly. Going 20 mph over the limit barely keeps up in the "slow" lane.

North of here - CFB Borden, the speed limit on base is 40km (20 mph) and, a ticket is literally a federal offence - automatic court appearance. When I was posted there, I don't think I ever took my car out of second.

sorry to hear about the ticket - that stuff makes me crazy!

Oh, and when I saw the title of the post, I wasn't thinking about speeding

Luckily he couldn't give you a ticket because you were committing the offensive off base and he doesn't have jurisdiction. Now once you got on base he could pull you over for doing 16....

I was on base, on my way off base. When I got stopped I was still on base.
