Okay, because I do NOT feel like doing metal/bodywork any longer, I have a guy finishing the bodywork, fitting the hood and painting her for me. I gave him all of the hardware and supplies that he needed to finish the job and he does great work.

He called me a little while ago and told me that there is a problem. Previous post https://www.britishcarforum.com/bcforum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/371645/fpart/1
Hits the top of the front carb and therefore he cannot eliminate the incorrect gap between the bonnet and the rocker on the driver's side of the car. He was asking me if the mounts were wrong or something. My reply is that the carbs and mounts are supposed to be that way. Am I correct in thinking that problem has to be in the hood? The cross support in the rear of the bonnet has been removed and re-welded to allow for "adjustments". How in the world are we going to fix this problem? Are there adjustments in the motor mounts? Hard to remember, but I do not believe that there are any adjustments to the mounts.

THoughts?????????????

Could it have something to do with those brackets you made to tilt it forward?

I would say Tony is correct.

Hood looks low at the front.

Mark

The gap should be the same all the way across on top of the rockers. The brackets were made exactly to spec.

Have you got a picture of the engine bay?

What would the motor mounts have to do with the gap between the bonnet and the rockers?

I have the same hinge setup as you do. I had to made the hinge "adjustable" at the 2 bonnet bolts to allow for a 1/8" to 1/4" difference between the hight of the front frame members. This was the only way to close the rocker gaps.

Hard to tell. But there is no adjustments for the mounts.

I looked at my old car but I had a weber. I would go back and take hard look at the hood

The hood is hitting the front carburetor and thus not allowing for the hood to "close"the rocker gap.

Ah, I got it. Well those hinges won't cause that unless the rockers have been replaced and are in the wrong location somehow. The engine mounts won't give much adjustment obviously. How tight is the body guy trying to get the rocker gaps?

And I think that the main thing with where he thinks that gap should be is based on trhe back of bonnet lining up with the top of the fire wall.

Dunno. It is Hap's set-up. I am sure that it is stock sprite, but know that it is not a stock BE manifold.

The reason I asked is that the Mini manifolds have a different angle to them, causing the carbs to be tilted up higher.
Just a guess as to a possible solution.
Jeff

Thanks. Dad used to race Minis many years ago. I sent my carbs, a few extra carbs, and a few manifolds to Hap last spring. He cleaned and rebuilt everything. Hopefully the manifold is correct. Possibility, but I am sure Hap made sure they were correct.

Looking at the video, I think the manifold is wrong. Are the float tops level?

The carbs are angled slightly. The fueld routing has since been corrected. I wonder if this is in fact a Mini manifold?

I'll see if I can go over to take better pics tonight.
