Alloy wheels for that authentic steel wheel look.

I have always felt that the early sidescreen cars look best this steel wheels and hubcaps with wire spoke wheels second. The problem with TR2/3 steel wheels has always been strength and durability. Anyone who has driven one of these cars knows what I mean. When restoring my car we had to sort through at least a dozen wheels before we found 4 wheels that were reasonably true and cosmetically acceptable and a spare that was true yet not so pretty. Being steel, most of spares in circulation are either rusty or badly pitted even after media blasting and painting. After restoring five wheels I realize that a sudden kerb or other road mishap could easily result in a bad vibration, excessive tire wear and possible poor handling.

So, I came across this site

These wheels

are cast aluminum alloys that look very much like the steel wheels used on TR's and other period sports cars. The only downside is price and inability to fit the TR hubcaps. But, the spinners do look sharp!

At least there is an option if your original steel wheels go square!

The guy in that car looks like the gent sitting next to me at a Mexican bar drinking Margaritas and eating Tacos

I read that first link as "Real Men Engineering"!

I have never used them but Stockton Wheel Stockton Wheel under their old ownership had a good rep for making custom wheels. They are not far and I could bring a TR3 wheel to them to copy if you want. Just ask for a quote and if you want, I'll bring it to them.

Frank-

I like those rims too - but Fireman's pics the wheels are too wide for me, sticking past the body lines. Maybe just an offset issue. 6" maybe, but I'd prefer 5.5" for those and if you felt like it you could still use stock tires.

I highly recommend Panasports. I bought a set and no wheel needed any weight as the wheels are perfectly round and true. The difference in the way the car drives is unbelievable.

My be we should write the engineering companies and let them know there is a market in the TR lines. Especially since TR3 interest is growing.

So, I went to the site. (Yes, I saw "real men engineering" too. Would be a good name!)

What I DIDN'T see, was any wheel on their page that would fit a 4-bolt TR. ???
