Is there information (or tutorial) on how to align a TR4A IRS at home? I think some use strings?? I might mention that I have the R. Good adjustable rear mounts. I have rebuilt the car with new bushings and need to get my tie rods set and set the alignment. Bruce
With care, you can do it at home. You will need a flat--REALLY flat--surface, though. There are a number of ways to do it. As usual, my method is on my sites:
I've measured my garage floor and determined that it has about 3/8" slope side to side. I compensate by adding 3/8" plywood or particle board under the wheels on the low side. I do all of my older cars this way, and no sign of unusual tire wear or handling.
Steve - Thanks for your input. I am going to start as soon as I get enough plumb bobs. I do need to set my tie rod ends and I was wondering about the way the tie rod knuckle sets in the steering arm. Should I adjust the tie rod so that the stud is as vertical as can be when dropping into the steer arm? How do I know exactly how to adjust the tie rod to drop into the steer arm without pulling one way or another? Bruce
I am trying to establish the proper lenght of the measurement from the inner ball joint on the steer rack to the outside ball joint and one thing is bothering me. Both my ball joints seem to be up against the dust shield so my concern is that would wear against the rubber boot and it just does not seem right. Should they be touching? Bruce
