Alfa arrives

Alfa and my Subaru arrived from Florida today after 3 days on the road. They were unloaded in large parking lot across the street. Alfa fits in the garage side by side with the Subaru even though front of car is somewhat wider than the TR6 but it's tough getting in and out of car. Couple of problems. The small vent window handle is only glued on and soon drops off. It's a substantial piece of brass but held on by glue? Son tried Gorilla glue but it fell off again. Some owners leave them off entirely, others use the glue they use to glue on mirrors. Problem 2. Car has a sump guard and our driveway - due to years of use and neglect - has a large crown in the middle and driving out, the Alfa guard hit the bump and made a horrible noise. I backed off and went out half off the driveway, thus avoiding the center. I Googled the problem and some owners simply remove the guard and hope they don't hit the finned aluminum sump on a speed bump. The car rides much better than the TR6 and handles better on a bumpy road as well. Shifting into first and reverse is best accomplished by engaging second and 4th, respectively. The one has power steering, power brakes, automatic windows with 4 buttons (2 up, 2 down), a/c (currently inoperative), a top that goes up easily but tough to latch, a decent sized trunk, Bosch fuel injection and tires I never heard of. I took a few pictures and will try to post them here. Its ironic. I have a red TR6 and a green Alfa. What's wrong with this picture?

Funny as can be!

The sump guard is "redundant to requirement" and adds a couple inches to clearance. You just need to be aware that when you "reef" an Alfa, the oil pan and the hood will be damaged.

"Don't DO that!" Approach all lumps on an angle.

As far as the vent window latches go, "cleanliness is next to Godliness" is the rule. CLEAN the surfaces well and use the mirror glue.

OK Doc. I'll swab some alcohol on the window - that should clean it ok. Unless you've got a better idea. The motor mounts are all ok according to Luciano. When they're not, the pan apparently hits the guard. The car has 89K miles and lists to the left just like the TR6 did before I shimmed the spring. It's 24" from the floor to the wheel arch on the left and 25" on the right. I have no idea what's standard.

New motor mounts. Use a jack from the pan or a lift from the head.

Wish we were closer, I'd do i for fun or to just keep it going.
