Well when I picked up my parts car and several days later denoted it to be road worthy, I never thought I'd spend two months working out the kinks. Well Im still waiting for my grill but the insurance is done and its off to DMV tommorw. This left some for time for me to get back to my original project. The fenders from WC have only been sitting around since the Carlisle show collecting dust. Took out a whole bunch of metal (SWA) to make room for the new tires. I also got to assemble the Passenger side A Arm with all new parts. Feels good to be working on my goal vehicle again. Here's some pics...

Looking good so far, what's the plan for the engine? I notice the rear aches are a little wider than standard, I assume it will be for go as well as show?

I would love to build an A series, but I hope to get this into scca when done. Planning to build for HP class at least to start out with, Havent read all the rulebook but from what I understand the stock displacement engine must be used? Also check out the fitment of the early rear valnce to eliminate the rubber bumper mounts. Shaved the holes and welded in a reccessed rear plate. Kind of hard to see but looks good so far. Cut the other wheel arch today

You can run a fully modified 948 in HP, or you can run a lightly tweaked 1275 under the "Limited Prep" rules. NOBODY runs a 1500.
Go back and fully read the production car rules before you commit to doing the 1500.
Pay close attention to the roll cage section of both the PCS and the GCR, too.

Ive got the rollbar section down pretty good and have done some favors for a local tubing bender so that shouldn't be a problem. Ive seen the sections in HP that clarify the modifications allowed but wasn't sure if you could swap a 1500 car with a 1275 engine. That I would love to do. I'd like to back it up with the Rivergate and lock out first gear if that will fly. I read that you must retain your stock grill, but the 1500 has the nasty rubber bumper. Spridgetech offers the fake version, do you know if an early style grill would pass?

Sure, the early grilles pass just fine. When you register the car with the SCCA, you just declare the year to be a '72 or whatever.
Many of the current racers start out with rubber bumper tubs, as there are some inherently stronger features.
As far as the Rivergate goes, I can only think of two tracks in the country where overdrive would be helpful in a Sprite. Elkhart Lake and VIR. I prefer to just change rear end ratios for different tracks.

Good looking A-arms. Where did you get the parts?

A arms... homeade blast cabinet and using my boiler room as a paint curing booth. Rebuild parts came from Moss. Got a special 15% off first order coupon, so I ordered everything I could afford!
