I'm driving to Florida next month. We're taking two cars and the wife is driving the second.
She ABSOLUTELY insists we avoid Atlanta.
I figured I'd take I-65 down to Montgomery, but that's where it gets fuzzy.
Route 231 down to I-10 is the only reasonable route, so what's it like? 4 lane, 2 lane, well maintained etc?
It adds an extra 2 hours to the journey, which I'm not too happy about, so if someone can maybe hint at an alternate route around ATL, I'd appreciate it.
TIA!

BTW, I'm traveling with my wife, daughter, mum, mother-in-law, and mum's friend so I'm already on the losing side.

Use the AAA Trip Planner. You can click anywhere on the route to change it.

Why does she want to avoid Atlanta? If it's traffic, you can plan to drive through at night or early morning...

Oops, just reread the "ABSOLUTELY" part. Disregard that last statement.

Well, when you come through middle Tennessee, I would hope you'll let me know!

Will do MR, Can you PM me an address and phone # please?
It'll be boxing day when we come through your great state.

Perfect timing! Talk about the calm after the storm...

PM's on the way.

231 is a good road - that's how we go to FL...most of it is 4-lane but even the 2-lane is flat & straight....some interesting things along the way....don't remember exactly where but down in south AL on the left there's a place that sells petromobilia (old buildings & a new one that houses a nice muscle car collection).

Thanks Tony, that's what I needed to know.
Thank you too Mickey, look forward to it.
By the time I get to Clarksville, I'll need a little sanity.
By the time I get to Florida, I'll be beating Doc's door down for a CAB!

Well, when you're coming down I-65, you're about 45 miles from me!!
Ooops, Boxing Day I'll be in Birmingham with daughter.

Isn't there a song in there somewhere?

"By the time I get to Phoenix..." :jester:

"HI, I'm Glenn Campbell!"

I say we all meet at Mick's on boxing day and then convoy to Doc's for a LOT of CAB

WORKS FOR ME!

Heck, I'll even supply the Cab. That's THIS cab!

I'd go 231. You won't be doing 80 like on the interstate, but at least you'll get to see some really nice country. We always take Hwy 82 from Tuscaloosa to Montgomery, then 331 on south to Panama City. Not much scenery on I-10, you'll wish you'd had 231 all the way.

Kenny - I'm sending you a PM.
