Airbox looks different & it's leaking!

Got water leaking after heavy rain into the driver and passenger footwells, and it seems to be coming from the grill below the windscreen. From all accounts, this sounds like a blocked airbox drain. I found the following pictures on another site - but these don't look like the arrangement in either one of our B's. In our cars, there's a solid, black, immovable, tilted plate, with a spout about half way along and running all the way across, with no apparent drain hole anywhere. Any ideas?

Under the car, there should be a black rubber tubelike thing with a bulblike structure hanging down. At the bottom of this, there is an opening (it looks like the tube is pressed together). Open this andn ream it out.
