Air filter housing for HS4 [also need tuning help]

Re: Need to pick a filter for my single HS4

Picked up a piece of aluminum to make a heat shield. Will hopefully find time to make one this weekend!

Re: Need to pick a filter for my single HS4

Made the heat shield. Came out pretty good I think. Does seem to keep the heat down a little on the carb body.

Had noticed a fuel leak a few days ago and also noticed it was running inconsistently (badly), especially when warm. Well, when I pulled the carb, it was clear the fuel leak was from the air filter housing and the intake was flooded with a 1/16" of fuel.

I took everything apart and I think the piston may have been sticking open, since there was a fair amount of fine sand/grit in between the piston and dome. Moves a lot more freely now. Took her for a spin and she ran better after being warmed up, didn't see any signs of flooding.

Having disassembled the SU completely now to clean everything, I'm in awe of how simple that design is. Never realized you could have such an elegant, simple setup /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyway, I'll probably post up some pics of the heat shield when I get a chance.
