Air Deflector Color

This question is for the restoration of a 1958 100-6 BN6 serial 630. It is about air deflector behind the grille inside the front fender and also the piece of sheet metal that braces it. What color was the air deflector painted? What color was the brace painted? I'm guessing either body color or black.
Thanks!

Welcome! Check the Anderson/Moment guide, or the Concours guidelines. If you don't have them, it sounds like you need 'em. The guidelines (on CD) are actually pretty cheap to come by, the book can be pricey, as it's out of print (rumor is a reprint on the way...).

Going out on a limb, if you're referring to the piece shown in the picture below, I'd think it was body color.

If you mean the deflectors inside the grill opening, I'd hope they'd be black...

What part of Michigan? I grew up in Detroit, and now live in one of it's extended suburbs (Toledo, Ohio).

This is BN6L-942 (I bought it 4/1/78):

I have the Councours CD and guide but there is nothing in my copy showing those deflectors. Actually there isn't much in the guide at all. It is mostly forms for the concours official to use.
I have not heard of the Anderson/Moment guide. I will persue that.
The car in the photo appears to have been resprayed since the back side of the headlight bucket, the turn signal, and the wiring are all painted. I believe those items would certainly have been installed after painting.
Did you do anything extra to the engine when you did the car?
Thsnk you for your kindness and rapid response.

I grew up in Michigan at the other end of I94.

I hope you and yours are all well and happy.

You need a few more toys, what is the next item on the list?

Yes, there are a multitude of things that are not quite right on my car (or me, but we'll save those stories for later).

Next item on the list; 61 McCulloch? See below:

The air deflectors on my mid 57 BN4 were painted body colour and I'm fairly sure were post fitted after mechanical installation. They are primered in a fairly bright orange/red colour which is not seen anywhere else on the car. I'm reasonably sure they haven't been repainted although that is a possibility. The rub marks at the top of the image are from the tyre, the other deflector has worn right through the metal from tyre rub.

The braces were almost certainly black

That's a LOT of hard right-hand turns!

Or perhaps, a (very) poorly fitted deflector

Regarding the Concours Guide: You must have not opened all the files on the CD. The Guide is VERY extensive. More than just the judging sheets. There's photos too- like tools, coils, dampers, etc., etc.

Hey Randy,

Howja like to pilot one of these 150+ MPH Bonneville Street Luges.
They don't do too well in sharp turns, but they LOVE straight lines.

Yes, I think also combined with 30 odd years of indifferent owners... That is actually what I like about the car, nobody has tried to improve it along the way so most of it is still as it left the factory. Its nice to see all the electrical parts still bearing their original date stamps.

When I'm diagnosed with an incurable disease, I'll definitely give it a try

Yes, I'll bet it is!

And any that don't function properly, can be made to work using parts from repops. Worth the trouble if you're going to do a totally correct restoration.

When we were at Bonneville, the teenage daughter of the guy with the yellow Luge ran 136+ with a Suzuki powered unit. I don't know how he came out, but he was planning to break 150 on this Harley powered Luge.

In the background behind the yellow luge is THE actual "Black Line" that we see in all the movies.

BTW, the Healey Streamliner is coming back to Bonneville in September to break 200 MPH. Make your plans now... We're goin'.

Well, going back to the original question after some cart and salt flats diversions (which I enjoyed by the way!), the answer to your question is that the splash panels are body color as the photo below shows.
