air conditiond healys?

i was looking through one of the upscale healy dealers on the net.he had i think a 67-3000,advertis /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gifed as oringinaly having come with airconditionig!never heard of this before,any truth to this, how could it fit?
 
Yes,
There was a dealer installed kit available for the BJ8's. A description and the instruction sheet was published in one of the club magazines in the 80's. Quite a strange installation with a blower for each foot well and a very long belt to mount the compressor high and far to the left.
 
When I was in 'search mode' for the BJ8 that I now own, one of the offerings had air-conditioning. The Dynamo was replaced by an alternator and the pump was fitted on the other side of the engine maybe on a second belt. The radiator was placed in front of the water rad. The rest of the gubbings was tightly packed behind the radio console. Owner was convinced that it was an 'original fit' - it may have been but it was rather shoe-horned in and looked to me very much an after thought. I have one photo (attached) remaining from that car of the engine bay, sadly only showing half of the pump assy.

Certainly here in the UK I don't see the need for air-con in a Healey. If it's too hot, drop the hood until it rains !

I thought a/c was dropping the top, I agree with Andrew.

BTW, how far is Bromley from Tumbridge Wells, I have some friends who live there - they describe it as the garden pot of England. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif
 
With that Eaton compressor, you may as well drop the top.
 
There was an article in the Austin Healey Club of America magizine a number of years ago, about adding A/C to a Healey. As I recall a bracket had been added and the compressor mounted near the bottom of the engine. You probably could find a back issue of the magazine, which was called Chatter at the time. Since the cooling system of a Healey is sort of marginal in a hot climate, it dosen't seem like adding an A/C would be vey effective.
 
ok so thanks to all the respondees,so there was once upon a time a dealer op.install.next the manufactuer did not build them this way,some people have seen half baked installs,and last,ive been to sunny england on numerous occasions and would not bring my healy with the top down but rather arrive in a submarine!just kidding,couldnt control myself,thanks and 'cheers' /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif to all

Tunbridge Wells is all of 27 miles from where I live, and yes it is a very nice area. Got a bit of a reputation as a retirement spot for the well heeled.
