Ain't got no Vroom, Vroom, Vroom

Went to start my rebuilt 1275 engine this weekend, and no go. Can't get spark out of the wires.

Tested for continuity on the wires and not getting anything. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't be be a connection if I touch the metal inside the boot that goes on the plug, and the core of the wire that goes into the dist. cap? The cap uses the wires the push in and then get screwed in. Not getting any continuity either when I touch the contact in the dist. cap and corresponding end of the spark plug wire.

Is my limited electrical knowledge off? Maybe I should get a new cap that uses push on wires.

Thanks...

"Old school" solid core wire?

No...couldn't even find a [censored] wire...looked some some kind of brushes inside the core.

Great information! Thanks....one step at a time.

Bruce:
If you are using a "points" system in your dizzy, the wires for the condenser and or ground may not be properly installed. Easy to pop the dizzy out and make certain the connections aren't being grounded out by improper installation....ask me how I know....

Thanks Roy...I've done that in the past. I've got a Pertronix on my BE now. After I eliminate everything else, I'll drop some points in to check that out.

Someone (maybe you?) mentioned that the Pertronix fails to switch if the voltage falls below 10V.

I need to get my points/condensor setup on a spare plate before my trip to Osage Beach.

Wasn't me, but I remember that. Then someone else added they push-jumped their car when it was dead and they did have Pertronix ignition.

Bruce, I've found that the fiber core wires just don't work with the screw contact type cap. The screw won't make good contact with the core of the "wire". Do yourself a favor and get some copper core plug wires.

That was me that mentioned the voltage.
I would make sure you have a full charged batt.
Check the molex cable connector and make sure its fully pushed togather on the pertronix unit.

Well...thanks to everyone's advice I've got spark.
Checked all the plug wires and such and they were fine. Problem turned out to be the grounded wire I had going to the coil...very iffy.

Ran out of time to get everything going...still no vroomm, vroom...but did get a few decent dup, dup, dups! Progress...one step at a time.

Just wanted to give an update.

Thanks
