I've just received my first order from AHSpares. I ordered two patch panels that seemed too expensive from my Moss distributor. My cost from AHSpares (including shipping) was $185, my Moss distributor quoted me $270. It took less than a week to get the parts from AHSpares. So... if there is a big price difference it is worth your time to get a quote from over there. They even have an option to get a shipping quote before you finalize your web order.

Just thought I'd share. BTW, upon initial inspection the panels look to be of good construction and fit. However, they did arrive naked... I'd prefer that they be coated.

What panels did you order?

They are equivalent to these Moss #'s

452-210
452-215

The price my Moss distributor quoted me included shipping.

Your Moss distributor's price is a wee on the high side when I compare it to mine...mine's a tad higher than theirs but my panels are primed at the factory so there's no prep needed

Make sure you metal etch & clean those "naked" panels really good before spraying primer on them....& have your body shop prime them with a primer that's compatible with the final paint....some rattle can primers aren't "hot" enough for paint & will cause fish eyes or other problems.

For the difference in my price & theirs, you might end up spending "a dollar to save a dime" as my grandmother used to say.

I "am" my body shop, and I have had other panels arrive naked for other projects, it is no big deal. I've tried various Moss distributors, and I have discovered that price is not always the "end all be all". Some of them are better at record keeping and handle issues such as back orders better than others.

I do not understand why the Moss price on those panels is so high in comparison to most of their other panels. I guess it is a supplier issue.

Also moot because Moss is out of stock & doesn't expect for at least a year (tooling problems in the factory)....but I've asked why that particular panel is so high.

It is not an easy one to make (which is why I bought it). Our sheet metal guy said he could make it, but suggested we buy one if possible (which is odd for him, because he usually likes a challenge).

FWIW: AH Spares is my "local" supplier and I've had good service from them. I've even been to their "shop" a couple of times to check out stuff before buying it and they've always been helpful. As they should be.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
