I introduce myself in the forum -
in the December of 2007 I buy on e-bay one 1958 100/6 AH seller was one very helpful and good man all go well an we decided together to ship the car after Christmas Holidays to avoid any problem with a
Multi modal Transport Operator based in LAX CA 90248- that have also in MIAMI one branch
The 15 January 2008 car was loaded on a truck disposed by MOT and unloaded at Miami MOT deposit
MOT invoiced me for Ocean Freight an for All Risk
Insurance - invoices have been payed from me totally-
at this point beginning the problems- Miami port is in congestion and ships are full booking BUT THE DELAYED SHIPMENT are NOT MY PROBLEM,
The car leave Miami the 19 April and arrived at GENOA
(Italy) the 9 May - without that TITLE were sent to me, Italian Agents of LAX MOT said me that delivery was postponed due the USA Customs prolonged detention of car title, without any Customs official certification that establish the legal validity of this circumstances.
I have never received from MOT any kind of communication for this problem.
The car are still now in the CTN with one other car from one unknown poor American Tourist that would travel along Italy with his car. Italian Agents of MOT wont that all detention of the CTN and future warehousing expenses will be paid by me.
In addition I haven't never received the Insurance certificate stating that my car had traveled insured and have not the possibility to claim to anyone if damages will be established at the CTN unloading.
MOT not reply at my solicitation by e-mail

This is the message just received at 1,30 am of today from MOT
Hello Andrea,
We had to get a new registration issued. New registration was sent via DHL 8903269045.

Kind Regards
Diana Aguirre - East Coast Operations Dept

I have received one other Message the 20 May with one other DHL number - no DHL parcel have never delivered...

You can sure imagine my bafflement and desperation,
I have my car here- I am asked to pay for error of the MOT
I probably must wait lot of time before take the car to home with loss of time ad money

I need help to defend my own rights in USA

Welcome Andrea! I sure wish I could help you, I really feel bad for you. There are members in LA, I'm sure one of them can point you in the right direction. Also, Tony on the MG board has some experience in moving cars from Europe, he might know how to help.

Andrea,

I am very sorry for you. I imported a Healey into Italy just over two years ago. I wish you had joined the forum before you arranged shipment. The company I used immediately advised against importing via Genoa. They told me to import via Livorno. Apparently Livorno customs are much easier to deal with in difficult cases. By the way, I hate to be a pessimist, but good luck with trying to register the car in Italy. I ran on Texas plates and temporary insurance for two years whilst trying and failing to register the Healey. I've now taken it back to the UK where it took me only 4 days to get it registered. In Italy, you will find that there is no clear rule permitting imported non EU cars to be registered unless they pass current emmissions regulations. Some people are even registering in Germany first, then transferring the registration to Italy. Apparently things changed about three years ago. One Autopratiche actually offered to "bypass the system" for 5000 euro.

Hello,

As Italy is part of the EU as well all European rules should apply from member states.

As far as I know does a car leave the US border once is prooven, that the car was for example not stolen.

Do you have a clear title (VIN number) of the car (or maybe a copy) most of the times the tags from the engine and body are missing or don't match

To have it registered Italian Custums can see nothing is wrong with the car otherwise it wouldn't have been exported (strickt regulation US after 2002)

You can show them all relevant paperwork for example bill of sale a vin tag in the period the car was produced it was only
screwed to for example the body and can't be compared to present.

When I imported the Healey I had the title but was aware that there was a kind of amnesty for all people which didn't had the paperwork but could proof they were the legal owner of the car. Maybe they have something like in Italy as well

Tanks Mike
My problems at the moment is that the forwarder lost the title
- and they should require one new registration ...
this take time from 19 April to 26 may ........
This problem may be solved now

Registration in Italy can be one other story
that which is impossible for one month in one city
require two days in one other city at less than 200 km from the first-

crazy place!!

The Italian forwarder in Genoa is skillful-I am confident - Legorn can be one good solution but now is late.

At last after a week I have loaded the car on truck
Friday 13 June at 16 pm just one hour before the closing time for the week end
The car is in good shape and have inside all the pieces that was added by Butch, included the trafficator and hood frame. and satisfy in all respect the description that the USA seller give on e-bay at the end of November 2007 at the beginning of this odyssey
The car will arrive at home Monday 16
The detention of container cost me more than $1000
the MOT avoid any reply at my refund inquiry
but for me THE IMPORTANT IS THAT CAR CAN BE AT HOME
tanks at all for support
I have added to the album new photo of car loading at Genoa port warehouse and Old town over passing

Hello Andrea,

I can see that it was worth while waiting for the AH. It is good to see the Healey arrived at his new home and I suppose the Custums were not that difficult. Keep us updated when you will tour around in the Healey

greetings from the Netherlands
