Following up on my earlier post about a transmission I just bought.

Here tis - what does it fit?

BN1?

BN2?

...the only numbers I can find are the OD unit's serial number (28/12??/2950) & the number "3662" stamped into the spline of the transmission case....I've not cleaned it up yet, its just like I got it:

Congratulations Tony, you have bought a late BN1 gearbox complete with 28% OD (~'54~'55). You should pop off the gear lever cover and check the gears inside to make sure there aren't any broken teeth, as this is a very common failure for this box (this is why they stopped using this gearbox after the BN1).

The OD will, technically, fit to later healey boxes, but it is a different unit requiring different electrics, and is not as robust as later ODs. Are you looking to sell it?

OK Tony,With regards to the serial number. The first two digits; 28 define the % OVD ratio. The 28% gears can be Transfered to the later 22% OVD units. However, do not ship it to Hong Kong-Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

Keoke - Alan...thanks for the info, guys....I'll pop the cover & look at the gears

&, yep, I've no use for it! I'll be putting it up for sale on my web site.

tony, nice piece to have! hope the gears are in good shape! they can be big bucks to replace - if you find damage check moss for replacement cost, might help in adjusting sale price /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

YEE HAA!!! Everything inside looks good!!!

Nah, I'm gonna sell it....one of you AH guys needs it more than me; I just saved it for you!

I suggest that this is an early BN1 transmission not a late one. Note the cover plate on the solenoid lever housing and the governor switch.

So, how does a non-AH-er tell?

Well now you know it's an early one; BN1--Regards--Keoke

Course now if you don't belivbe us you can check the "Moss" online catalogue.----- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

Well, I'll be the first to admit that I don't...but I do need to be able to properly identify it when I go to sell it.
