Has anyone mounted an Austin-Healey six cylinder muffler on another car? I just measured ours (about 3" deep; 6.25" wide; 26.5" long) with the intention of checking to see if we could install one under a 1973 BMW 2002 that we own - but I'd like to 'hear' impressions of the sound when you put the Healey silencer behind a different engine. (I would intend to cut the ends off and replace them with single inlet/outlets to match the 02).

I put a 1978 Datsun 280Z motor (Nissan) in an Austin-Healey 3000 back in "97. That's why I am also one of the Nasty Boys. I used a stock Healey (Walker) muffler. It sounds just like a Healey. If you put that muffler on a car with an inline 6 cylinder motor, IT WILL sound just like a 6 cylinder Austin Healey engine.
 
I don't think there's much chance of the two-litre four cylinder motor in the 2002 sounding like a three-litre Healey. Another issue I see is I guess that the dual inlets and outlets on the Healey muffler are connected by dual perforated pipes that bleed the sound into fiberglass packing material so it wouldn't be as simple as changing the end caps. I've never dissected a Healey muffler though, so can't say for sure.
