AH BJ7 Trafficator Color?

This is a 1963 BJ7. The (Trafficator) knob is unpainted and doesn't look correct. Shouldn't it be painted, or chrome? I have seen others painted black, and still others chrome in various auto shows.

Unpainted. Clean it up as best as possible (Dawn dishwashing detergent works nice) and then hit it some old fashioned black shoe polish. I did mine over a decade ago, and still looking nice and black.

This leather dye is a very dense black with a solvent that absorbs into the bakelite. Then black shoe polish over that.

I varnished mine. Makes it shiny and very dark brown, almost black.

And, I used Black India Ink followed by black shoe polish. Another option - seemed to work well and it has held up.

The knob should be chromed

Non adjustable steering "witches noses" are black plastic.
