AH 3000 window question

I'm passing this along for an AH3000 pal. The side windows sit in a hangar which then slides up/down in a fixed, chrome track.
Question: is there some material, like felt, that the window & chrome slide within?

Four (4) nylon guides, if I remember correctly.

I'll be taking the windows out of a BJ8 sometime fairly soon, and I usually take a few pictures when doing work like that.

The real question I'm assuming is "how do you get rid of the slop or rattling inside the door"? Replacing the clips that most likely have fallen out will help, but readjusting and tightening the channels the windows ride in will fix the real problem.

I'd love to get rid of the rattling.

I'm not sure it's possible, for the rear edge of the glass does not have the nylon clips. So that edge rattles against the sides of the channel.

Anyone address this? Johnny?
 
I am sure the channels should be lined with felt or a felt like material, after 40-50 years it wears thin and the window rattles, the nylon slides help as well, but the felt is there to keep it from rattling around.

I just got done doing my triumph, I had had a similar car in the past and it had rattly windows, which I hated. So swore I wouldn't have it again, I put in new slides and made sure everything was tight and adjusted in the mechanism and I have quiet doors. I know not exactly the same car, but principles and fixes are the same.

Quiet doors are a good thing, working on them is a pain, as you have to take off the panels, and you have limited access in there, and of course you don't want to break the glass, and of course you want to mske sure it is all going to stay in track etc. before you put it back together so you don't have to do it all over again.

But if it is bad and bothers you probably worth the effort.

Johnny said it. The channel is either ill-fitted to begin with--mine looked totally 'original'--or spreads and gets sloppy with time. I took some pliers and gently squeezed the channel sides together. It's a trial-and-error process; too tight and the window will bind as it moves up and down, too loose and you won't get rid of the rattle. Get it just right and the rattle will be gone and the window will move up and down smoothly.
 
:nonono: I'm sorry "Glemon" but on AH's there is no felt lining. The nylon clips we're reffering to have small appetures that stick out on the sides and touch the sides of the metal channel. If the sides were felt lined the nylon guides would bind up. It's a real stickler to get and keep the nylon guides onto the glass but that's another issue. As was mentioned, the channels can be squeezed to fit tighter.
 
I used my bench vise to tighten up the channel. I found I could control the squeeze a lot easier that way. Once I coated the nylon guides with epoxy to tighten them up. Worked good for a while. Then the epoxy wore off.

Hi All,

Don’t just look at the window for the source of vibrations.

I appreciate the problems experienced with the nylon fittings used in a Healey. After a few years of pursuing door-slam window vibration issue on my driver’s door (passenger door is solid), and removing the door panel more than a few times, I finally found the problem and it was not the window. Following a few days of slamming and observing, I noticed that the sheathed door latch link would vibrate against the wing window support. This door-slam initiated vibration would be amplified by the door structure and also stimulate the vibration of its attachment to the lock at the rear of the door as well.

The fix was rather easy and required the insertion of a soft buffer between the latch connection and the wing window support. Now, when slamming the door, no vibrations and it sounds solid.

Thanks all for stimulating my pursuit of this rather aggravating issue.

My mistake, I assumed, every car had some kind of liner in the channels to keep the window from rattling around metal on glass
