After market muffler?

My Spitfire has Monza dual exhaust with no real mufflers (just some bullet shaped things near the exhaust tips). Frankly it's too loud for me. Does anyone know if it's possible to add after-market mufflers to the Monza dual exhaust? I like the look of the Monza's and the sound is cool until you have to listen to it for any length of time. I'd like to soften it a bit. Any suggestions?

Talk to a reputable muffler shop(not a chain store). They may be able to put a resonator/muffler inline that would quiet the beast a little.

My first TR6 had a Monza exhaust system. I thought the mufflers had rusted out from the inside because it seemed loud to me. The best thing about it was the low harmonic in a parking garage. As I'd drive by the parked cars, the car alarms would go off as if they were cheering me through the garage. It was very amusing.

To you perhaps, but probably not to those whose alarms were singing praises to your exhaust...... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif

The PO had installed 2 glaspack mufflers on my 74 TR6 and they rival Monza in the decibel level.
I stole an idea from motorcyclist and VW's. I added a baffle to the tail pipes which not only toned things down a bit but added back pressure to the exhaust, which in turn seemed to give me slightly better acceleration.
I set them back about 2 inches from the end of the tail pipe tip ends and held them in place with ss self tapping screws.
With those nice Monza tips you may not want to go this route, but by reducing the ID of the exhaust tips you will cut down on the sound.

I have the Monzas (with a Pacesetter header) and lined my trunk and gas tank with a sound deadening liner called FatMat. Kept the body from acting as an echo chamber. Liked it so much I did the same to my E-type FHC which was almost painfully loud (I have headers and an ANSA in that one).
Stuff's not expensive and really lowers in interior noise.

Same suituation here on My TR6, after a while I didnt like it that loud so up to Auto zone picked up a cherry bomb muffler and installed it inline about next to the transmission and quited it down and happy now
