I appreciate both, it's nice to see how some people have very tastefully done some modifications to their cars, and it's also nice to see a car that is bone-stock original. And ultimately you have to consider what you plan to use your car for when restoring it. Do you plan to drive it a lot? You will likely have to make a few changes here and there. Is it mostly going to be used for going to car meets? Then go totally original and win some awards if that's what you want. Let's just learn to live together... And I think for the most part both camps do with some exceptions. It's interesting that most of the Concours events have a new category for best original car, in other words a car that is not over-restored.

And speaking of that third category

On the weekend saw a 1967 MGB drag racer, it's well known locally, it runs some sort of V8 I think (have never asked), also suspect probably a custom frame underneath of some sort (again, have never asked), have tried but can't seem to find a picture of it on the internet.

In it's own unique way... it's a nice car
 
The funny thing is, that guy was running around telling everyone how the painted bumpers weren't original, and they're all thinking, "sheesh, what an idiot. Everyone knows MG only had black rubber bumpers"

If you're going to try to impress people with your knowledge, it helps to pick something a bit more arcane.

I have a picture of it I think. I'll post it tonight. I believe its running a Chevy small block V8 of some sort but the funny thing was that it retained the stock exhaust (not sure if its hooked up though)
