Whitephrog

Here’s the dilemma. Recall that I am slowing restoring two Bugeyes.. The first is what’s left of the original Whitephrog which includes everything but the original tub. This car will be restored as a nice daily driver. It has upgrades, including a 1275cc engine, ribbed case transmission, single HS6 carb, front disc brakes. I’ve cleaned all the pieces and parts and have repainted all the suspension, steering and drive train parts. They look nice and fresh and are essentially ready to be re-installed The body, however, is a different store. Still lot’s of body work to be done. May not be ready until this time next year.

The second car, which will be the “new” Whitephrog, is being restore to as close to production line appearance and condition as is practical for an amateur. The car came to me about a year ago having been in dry storage since 1974. Ton of NOS stuff purchased by the PO in 1978 came with the car. The good news is that the new Whitephrog will be coming back from the paint and body guys at the end of February. The bad news is that the engine, front suspension, rear end and interior stuff (seat, panels, carpet) will not be ready for several more month.

We had a couple of mid-60 degree days last week. Made me think how much I’ve missed being able to drive a BE for the last two years. Not sure that I can wait until late fall to be back on the road. So here’s the thought to get this thing on the road quicker. Install all the new, NOS and restored stuff from the car that ready now. Then install the engine, transmission, front suspension, rear end and interior from the other car temporarily knowing that I will remove and replace all that in late fall.

Advice and counsel please.

Ray,

Get one one the road. Fiddle later. Spring is 35 days away by my Calendar. Snow on the ground here in Dayton but those days especially with you being several hundred miles south of here will get here fast.

I'm voting with the get-it-on-the-road group. Life's short, better to get some driving in. Besides, you can field strip a Bugeye in a weekend, so no real time lost in the fall when it's time to sort the bits out again.

Think of it as a chance to test out the fit of some of the items.

Do it!! Drive now, work on them when you can't drive.

Lets use what's ready. You can always change it out later and will know it's good.
