My '60 Bugeye is approaching the paint stage. I'm wondering, however, how the underside and the inside of the the trunk area should be treated? My paint guy suggests that the underside be sprayed with epoxy and then treated with 3M undercoating or, alternatively, sprayed with an epoxy chassis black color. Anyone have any thoughts on what might allow me to stay close to original, yet have superior rust protection? FYI - the exterior color will be Iris Blue. Thanks in advance.

Original treatment was to paint the underside the same color as the rest of the car. As long as the paint is OK, it won't rust. Are you planning to drive in the rain, snow, salted roads, or other poor conditions? If not, rust should not be a problem.
 
:iagree: Paint is so much better than when these cars were new. Epoxy primer is a must. Some people use spray on truck bed protector underneath but I think realistically for what we drive, just paint is fine. BTW I love love love Iris Blue - the first car I ever truly fell in love with was an Iris Blue Bugeye. I was 14, she was $350 and alas it was not to be.
 
Thanks! Not planning to drive the car in anything except sunshine, certainly no salted roads, etc. May go with the same color as the exterior.

I am doing a complete restoration on my car, and will be done this summer. I decided to go with the original iris blue on my car, too. I found out from other members the bottom was painted the color of the body. Unfortunately, I found this out only after I used black bed liner on the bottom. I do not plan on driving my car continually in rainy or snowing conditions either, but living in Washington State, I considered bed liner applied to the bottom and fender wells cheap insurance. It was a pain removing the old tar type undercoating, sandblasting it, spraying epoxy primer, painting it, and applying undercoating, but I considered it a must since I don't want to be underneath this car again doing repairs in my lifetime. The boot area was never completely painted from what I could tell. As a result, there was light to medium rust. I ended up sand blasting this area and coating it with epoxy primer. The entire inside is also painted iris blue. It was a very nasty job indeed. I have tried to keep my car as original as possible, but I admit I cheated here and there when it was clear the technology would keep my car better protected from the elements. Just my two cents.

I have been doing some reading about Lizard Skin, a heat and sound proofing spray. May go with that on the areas of the inside that are to be covered, and in the wheel wells.
 
Understand you can get bed liner any color you wish. Tony used red on his cars.

Is another option. Might be nice below the driver and on the firewall?

Some guys in my British Club went together and bought it and used it. All say it helps with the heat.

Ha, it is not a bad place to hide when the garage floor is really clean and the car is clean as well. Oh, nap time.
