TR2/3/3A Advice on which Hi Torque Starter to Buy.....

I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a Hi Torque starter. I am thinking of buying one from Classic Car Performance. Has anyone bought one of there and are happy with it? A friend of mine bought a Moss unit and found that he had to make an aluminum shim in order to make it work. Not that that it is a big deal because I still have the original stock starter shim should I need it. Has anyone had to use the shim with the Classic Car Performance TR3 starter? I have heard that the Moss units had some other issues but maybe that was years ago and the problems have since been resolved? Also I have been running a TR6 gearbox in my TR3 for 20 years (the flywheel has the 91 tooth ring gear). Because it's a TR6 box does that make any difference to the hi torque starter?....don't think so! Anyway any thoughts on the best starter to buy?

I agree with Poolboy. I bought mine from Ted many years ago at a Triumphest when those starters first came out. Ted claimed to be the one that developed them. Not sure if that’s true or not, but mine has given me trouble free service. Plus, unlike most vendors, Ted can give you good advice…he really knows these cars.

I also got tr3 starter from Britishstarters.12 years and 25k only issue was around 15k the small diameter long screws that hold the motor to adapter plate came loose, requiring removal of starter, straighten one screw that slightly bent, and using locktite on threads which did not come with any.
No problems since but Iwould recommend loctiting these screws before installation.
