Sat in the office for a bit before my class started Friday at the Community College and chatted with the auto body teacher. He says "bring in the parts and we'll prime 'em with DP epoxy primer".. same thing when I'm ready for paint. Just gotta buy the materials. Maybe there will be some progress on the TR2 soon!
I gotta pick a color!!!!

Top 3 are BRG, Signal red, or black..
Any color I do will have matching color wheels. Discs or spokes. Red or Green would probably be with steel wheels, if I go black, I like the look of the wire wheels painted black too.
Having to be so perfect with the body work kinda puts me off the black. My friend says that even the slightest tint of another color in the black lessens the effect of imperfections.
I'm considering a color I saw on a 57 Bently. I swore it was black till I saw it in direct sunlight. I was actually green. very dark green. hmmmm

There was a really beautiful Dove Grey TR3 on FleaBay a while back. Note on of the standard colors but it looked just right.

Geranium....Ice Blue....Olive Yellow....

Meaning no disrespect whatsoever, I'm to the point of anything but BRG or Red. Nothing wrong with either colour, there's just so many of them.

I think there are lots of very cool slightly more obscure colours - Bedouin is a favourite

My Sprite was originally primrose and will be again ... if I ever manage to get back to work on it. That's a nice fairly uncommon color.

jump off the deep end and go TARGO PURPLE...

guaranteed to be the only one.....

Before seeing the link, I thought you were describing the General Lee.
I'm at the same point. There's just too many BRG and Signal Red TR2s and 3s out there. I'd like something a bit more unique. I'd like to stay original, but I gotta be able to live with it too. Geranium is out. Olive, no way!
I may crack and go with black yet. That would look sooooo good.

Might wanna go black on the next go round. Ol' boy might get miffed you chose the hardest color to prep for on the first time out. I say take it easy on 'em the first time. You're more likely for them not to be "too busy" next time you need something painted.

I *have* to paint my A35 ~Speedwell Blue~ , but a colour I'm starting to like on many cars is a light blue-green that Donald Healey used (he preferred it to BRG). It's on #29 below.

Dougie's car (in the Racing section here at BCF) is a similar shade.

Also, Honda makes a light green (I think called Mystic green) in the current Accord. We almost bought one (we ended up with white one instead)....but I still like this green.

All dark colors will show up imperfections in the body work to a greater degree then lighter colors. That doesn't mean that they don't show up on lighter colors, it just makes then harder to see at a passing glance.

The idea is to do the body work as if you were painting in black, and then whatever color you chose, it will look fine. When I started doing the work on my car, I didn't know what color I was going to paint it, until a co-worker saw a picture of a black TR3 with red interior, and said this is how I should do the car.

I had a good friend of mine from high school days, who has been in the auto body business all his life, including teaching it in high school, show me how to feel for the imperfections in the body work, and how to correct them. I spent a lot of time messing with the body work, but the effort paid off.

Here's some pics of the final result. I'm not afraid to have anyone get up close and look at the results. BTW, I even did the paint myself in my garage.

I'm not saying this is for everyone, but I never did body work before, but I did put in the effort, and that is what is really all that is necessary.

OK I have to say it

I may not know Art but I know what I like (runs and hides)

Seriously Art - looks super!
