Adv. Distributors one "BAD" company
A long message but my last technical post on the BCF
I made a promise to a few BCF folks that I would not pull
out of the BCF until my renovated dizzy arrived from Jeff
Schlemmer at Advanced Distributors.. It arrived today and
if Jeff ain't the baddest dizzy dude in the trade, than I
don't know who could do better work. Jeff added all kinds
of new wizz bang things to my dizzy that he rebuilt 2 years ago. And he rotated my dog setting 180*.
So, I've kept my promise!
He's two photos. I'll do a complete 'How to" for rookies;
with photos and text and publish it on my technical write up site. As to why another brand of rotor ate a new dizzy cap in 65 miles? Jeff's words follow these two photos. The rotor ins question was visibly longer than Jeff's custom made red rotors.
I simply cannot say enough good things about Jeff at Advanced Distributors. I am so lucky I stopped driving the car when it developed a stutter in the mid-2000 rpm range and I sent the dizzy off to Jeff for a look/see.
In Jeff;s own words:
Honestly, I'm not sure what happened to your distributor. The upper shaft bushing or a bent shaft is the normal cause for rotor damage. Sometimes it can be that the car is run with the cap sitting a bit crooked. I took out the shaft and went through everything again, including checking the shaft to make sure its perfectly straight. I made a very, very small adjustment. I also provided you with a few replacement rotors (my own brand) because they can't possibly come apart like the ones you had. They also fit the shaft tighter. The loose fit of the old rotors may have lead to their demise. I expected to see a shaft with a .005" runout or greater but that just wasn't the case. I think the loose fitting rotor was the culprit. Either way, I cleaned things up, replaced the advance springs again, and made sure it was 100% up to par. Included a new Petronix to replace the one burned out. I also put in a Blue Streak
point set and condenser. They're the absolute best available and should last you a long, long time!!!
