Adjustable rod on brake master cylinder

Hi,

on my BJ8 restoration project I need to fit a new brake master cylinder as the original one has gone missing. I looked all over but I couldn't find any settings for the correct length of the adjustable fork on the the push rod in any of my manuals or even this Forum.

Does anyone know how to adjust it?

Thanks,

Dieter

Hi Dieter,
I think it boils down to what works for you. Whether you want it to be equal to the clutch pedal or something different for better heel-toeing.

Hi Dieter,

The earlier ones aren't adjustable so I don't know a "spec" for adjustment.

However, one thing to be sure of is that there is at least some 'free pedal' when the pedal is all the way up - most of the books I have for other cars suggest something on the order of 1/16" to 1/8" pedal movement before the piston starts to move. The piston inside the master cyl has to come all the way out to the internal stops in order to open the valve inside that allows more fluid into the cylinder. If you don't have any free pedal, you will have trouble bleeding the breaks.

Beyond that, Greg is probbaly right.

Thanks you guys. Your comments make sense and this should be a sensible approach to find an individual setting that works for me.

Cheers Dieter
