Adjust headlights/ "true" them?

Might sound dumb, but the right headlight on my 78MGB projects the beam about 12+ inches higher then my left. What is the proper way to adjust headlights and what angle? yes, I knw I can probably just move them, but how do I know when it is correct? I could have sworn that they used to call this "trueing" the headlights and that the mechanics or motor vehicle inspection used to have some kind of line on a wall in front to check for this? Am I crazy? I am only 43 but maybe my memory is going with the rest of me marbles!!

Can't answer myself, but I'd love to know the answer as well. Need to do mine as well one of these days.

Here's another (similar) method as prescribed by John Weimer.
